ENCHANTED ROCK
Hiking Enchanted Rock has long been a favorite of ours. With 11 miles of trails and a climb to the summit make this a hit with kids of all ages. There is plenty to explore from the youngest to the oldest in your group. Reservations are required & book up fast. Book HERE
VISIT AN ORCHARD
Peach season is a big deal here and it runs mid-May through mid-August. We have our personal favorites because of the peaches, the service and the friends that own them. We hope you pay them a visit and tell them we sent you!
Gold’s Orchards ~ family owned and offers seasonal peaches, plums, nectarines, produce, peach ice cream and pies. They also have on-site bakery serving pie and cobbler straight out of the oven along with the best soft-serve peach ice cream. The storefront has locally produced grocery items and a gift shop, too. You’ll even find some Mackadoo Farms produce and products offered there as well.
Jenschke Orchards ~ Seven generations of Jenschkes have grown up on the family farm. Visitors can purchase picked fruit or pick their own. In addition to fresh peaches in the summertime, they also offer ice cream, jams, jellies and canned peaches. Recent new offerings include strawberries, pumpkins and Christmas trees when in season.
LBJ STATE PARK & HISTORIC SITE

And tour the Lyndon B Johnson Ranch. They even have a pool to cool off in, tennis courts and picnic tables. You can spend the whole day here exploring the great outdoors! Learn more HERE.
OLD TUNNEL STATE PARK
This old railroad tunnel is home to up to 3 million Mexican free-tailed bats and 3,000 cave myotis bats from May through October. The Park is open in the evenings for bat viewing and programs. You can also hike, picnic and explore while you’re there. To stay in the park after 5pm for bat viewing you must have a reservation. Learn more & get your tickets HERE.
KAYAK ON THE GUADALUPE
This is by far our favorite way to stay cool and have fun with our older kids in late spring and throughout the summer. We usually rent a mixture of kayaks and paddle boards then spend a few hours out on the water. It’s always a hit and wears all of us out! We rent our equipment from Kerrville Kayak and Canoe; they have locations right on the water, so you don’t have to haul equipment. Pack some water to drink and a cooler and spend the day exploring as a family.
PIONEER MUSEUM
Our local Pioneer Museum is a living history museum that has been designed beautifully. They consistently have fun, interactive activities to make history come alive for both young kids and adults. Check out their page for a current schedule and to purchase tickets. Learn more HERE.
